Her craft cocktails and love for people provide a great opportunity for networking and socializing.
Ethel Mae’s…where we serve vibes and food for neo-soul!
Ethel Mae Gates Tubbs was born September 11, 1950 to the late Ethel Lee Gates. She was born and raised in the Shake Rag Community. In the Shake Rag Community her mother, Ethel Lee Gates, owned a café called Gates BBQ that was located on Tolbert Street. So, as you can see, Demetra got her entrepreneurial spirit, love for cooking, and serving others from not only her mother, but grandmother as well.
Ethel Mae was a one-of-a-kind woman who taught her daughter, Demetra Tubbs Sherer, all that she knew about being hospitable and entertaining others. Growing up they always had guests at their house. Ethel Mae was always cooking and providing a good time to everyone that entered their home. Ethel Mae is where Demetra got her love for people and treating others the way she desires to be treated. Ethel Mae’s love language was providing amazing food and loving others. Demetra wanted to bring those same qualities to Ethel Mae’s Restaurant.
In 2005, Demetra lost her mother in a tragic car accident along with her baby brother Nathan and Aunt Vada. The restaurant in not only in memory of her mother and grandmother, but in honor of her family.
